It is referred to the lens diaphragm opening inside a photographic lens.
The lower the value the bigger diaphragm. Then the background of the picture will be more blur just like the first picture from the right with a value of f/2.5.
While on the left the aperture value is high, f/32 therefore the background of the picture is clearer then the first picture.
